When choosing a collar for cats, the safety and comfort of your friend come before anything else. Especially for cats that go outside or do not have a microchip, a name tag attached to the collar can be life-saving. However, for cats living indoors, collars must be flexible (elastic) or have a safe locking mechanism; this allows the cat to easily free itself in case of a potential snagging situation.
To find the correct size, two fingers should easily fit between the collar. Collars that are too tight make breathing difficult, while ones that are too loose can lead to accidents by getting the paw through the head. Among different materials like leather, nylon, or fabric, choosing the model that causes the least friction with your cat's coat structure will speed up the adaptation process.
