For living creatures in the aquarium ecosystem to have a long life and vibrant colors, it largely relies on correct feeding habits. Foods in different forms such as flake food, granules, sticks, or tablets are produced in accordance with the anatomical structure of fish species that feed on the water surface, midwater, or bottom. For example, plant-based contents are preferred for herbivorous species, while carnivorous species need high-protein formulas.
When establishing a feeding routine, taking the stomach capacity of the fish into consideration and giving portions only as much as they can consume in a few minutes is of critical importance for preserving water quality. Excess food residues can accumulate at the bottom of the aquarium and increase ammonia and nitrite levels. Therefore, while providing food diversity, it is necessary not to lose control of portions and to regularly observe water values.
