Royal Canin Dry Cat Food: Daily Grams and Bag Lifespan

According to Royal Canin's feeding table, the daily grams for a 4 kg cat range between 40–60 g. Daily grams, protein, and bag lifespan for 12 products.

For a 4 kg adult cat, Royal Canin's feeding table ranges from 40 g to 60 g per day depending on the product: the same weight, the same brand, but a different recipe and different energy needs. Therefore, a 2 kg bag of one product lasts about 33 days, while another lasts 50 days. This article combines the manufacturer's analysis and feeding table for 13 Royal Canin adult, sterilized, and senior dry cat foods, outlining the daily grams, daily protein and fat amounts, and bag lifespan.

What data is this article based on?

Royal Canin Turkey product pages publish the crude protein, fat, ash, and fiber ratios, along with a feeding guide table for each food. The pages do not include metabolizable energy (kcal/kg) and moisture; therefore, unlike our N&D dry cat food article, we did not make calorie estimates here. Instead, we based our findings on the manufacturer's own recommendations. The tables are structured differently depending on the product: some say "low / high energy requirement", some say "ideal weight / overweight", and one says "underweight / normal / overweight". To make a comparison possible, we read all of them for a 4 kg cat and wrote the table names as they appear on the product pages. Bag lifespan and daily protein/fat amounts were calculated using maintenance values only (excluding overweight or underweight cat rows); for products with two maintenance values (e.g., low and high energy), the result is given as a range. The grams represent dry food only, not the values in parentheses given for "mixed with pouch" feeding. Kitten foods are categorized by age and were therefore excluded from this article.

Bag lifespan ranges from approximately 24 days to 313 days across the listed products and package sizes. Your cat's actual daily amount varies depending on age, activity level, and neutered status; the table on the packaging and a veterinarian's advice should be the basis for the exact amount.

The following values are the crude (as-is) percentages published on the product's own page; moisture was not listed, so no dry matter conversion was made. Since some pages did not include ash or fiber values, those cells were left blank.

Four findings from the tables

1. Protein is highest in the Fussy Exigent Cat Food (40%), while fat ranges between 10% and 23% across Light Weight Care Cat Food and Sphynx Breed Specific Adult Cat Food. Fiber is highest in the Light Weight Care Cat Food (10.3%); formulas like this are designed for weight control and hairball management, while high-fat options are tailored for specific breeds and finicky eaters.

2. In products with an overweight row, the manufacturer reduces the portion by 18.6% to 21.4%. For example, for Sterilised 37 Sterilised Cat Food, the ideal weight portion for a 4 kg cat is 57 g, while the overweight row suggests 46 g. If you are planning a weight loss regimen, do not reduce portions on your own; determine the target weight together with your veterinarian.

3. The same protein percentage does not determine the daily amount of protein. Daily protein is the protein percentage multiplied by the daily grams. In Sterilised 37 Sterilised Cat Food, with 37% protein, a 4 kg cat gets about 21.1 g of protein per day; a formula with lower protein but a higher gram recommendation can yield a similar figure.

4. Gradual transition is essential when changing foods. Since gram recommendations vary among different products, transition to the new food over 7–10 days by mixing it with the old food, and recalculate the portion according to the new product's feeding guide.

If you feed dry food along with wet food

When adding wet food, it is necessary to reduce the dry food portion; Royal Canin indicates this as "grams + pouch" in some of its products (the grams in this article are for dry food only). You can check our Royal Canin wet food analysis article for energy and dry matter calculations regarding wet food. The same calculation for dog owners has been made in our Royal Canin dog dry food article.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many grams of Royal Canin cat food should be given daily?

It varies depending on the cat's weight, energy needs, and the specific product. According to the table in this article, the manufacturer's maintenance recommendation for a 4 kg cat is between 40 and 60 g per day. Use the table on the packaging for the exact amount.

How many days will a 2 kg bag last for a cat?

According to the manufacturer's table for a 4 kg cat, a 2 kg bag will last between approximately 33 and 50 days, depending on the product. It is recommended not to leave an opened bag exposed for too long.

Are these tables also valid for kittens?

No. Kitten feeding tables are prepared based on age and expected weight and are outside the scope of this article; refer to the table on the packaging for kittens.

Why are calorie values missing?

Royal Canin Turkey product pages do not publish the kcal/kg value for dry food. To avoid presenting an estimated value as a fact, we did not perform calorie calculations in this article; for a brand example with energy declarations, you can check our N&D dry cat food article.

Data source and limitations

Values were compiled from analytical constituents and feeding guide tables on Royal Canin Turkey product pages; catalog products were matched according to page titles. For 1 product (e.g., British Shorthair: the table gives a 3–4 kg range instead of a single weight), the feeding table could not be reduced to a single value for 4 kg, so it only appears in the analysis table. Values may change if the manufacturer updates the recipe or the table. The article is for general informational purposes; for nutritional plans concerning cats with illnesses, pregnant, nursing, or senior cats, veterinary advice is required.
